We ate here lunch one fine, late-summer day, enjoying an outside table.

Tom: Ah… the sight of ruins outside brings back memories of studying the great, classic Greek buildings in grade school history!

Ray: You moron! Those are just buildings being demolished on the ASU campus!

Tom: Oh, right. Well, it was a nice day to eat Greek outside, anyway–do you remember what we started with? That fine Greek beer made my mind fuzzy.

Ray: Yeah–you and I shared an appetizer of grape leaves ($3.75). The grape leaves were very good, with a nice balance between the vinegar taste of the leaves and the light sweetness of the filling.

Tom: Then, for my main feast I had the classic Gyro ($5.75), which, in spite of the beer, I remember being prepared to perfection.

Ray: For main course, I had the 1/2 pepper steak sub topped with provolone, lettuce, tomato, and brown mustard ($4.30), a side of fries ($1.20), and sweet iced tea ($1.25). The sub was very good, the best of its type I’ve had in Boone. Parthenon uses banana peppers instead of the more traditional green peppers, which for me is a plus. The bread was fresh, and the meat flaked and cooked correctly. The fries were good, but not outstanding. Just typical French fries like one might find anywhere. The tea was likewise good, but nothing special (and why does a glass of tea cost more than a plate of fries?!?).

Tom: The service was prompt and we were greeted by the apparent owner/manager (even though we were in cognito).

Ray: I thought we were in shorts. Well, anyway, they did not know we were from the all-powerful BooneRestaurants.com! The presentation fits the informal atmosphere of this casual college restaurant. Nothing fancy, just functional. But, the music being played was a bit loud for my tastes, but not nearly as loud as many restaurants that cater to college students.

Tom: So, two thumbs up?

Ray: The Parthenon is a nice, relaxing place to have a good, substantial, and economical meal. Portions were well sized, the service was prompt and cheerful, and the atmosphere was not hectic or formal. I would not hesitate to take friends to the Parthenon for a meal, and would recommend it to anyone.

Tom: I just was annoyed by all those computer science majors eating there–why so many?

Ray: They thought it was a Geek restaurant.

Tom: Ouch!
