We first ate lunch at Mangia Buona one day not long after it opened.
Ray: I had the 10-inch Everything pizza (pepperoni, sausage, meatball, ham, black olives, onions, green peppers, and mozzarella cheese, but I subbed peperoncini peppers for the green peppers, $10.25). The pizza was good, with generous chunks of meats and veggies on a tasty crust. There was enough left over for lunch the next day, and the pizza was just as good the second time around. For beverage, I had several glasses of quite good iced tea ($1.95). The tea wasn’t overly sweet, and was strong enough so I could actually taste the tea itself, always a plus for me.
Tom: I had the Italian Sausage and Peppers Sub, served with a pickle spear and chips. The sub was great, not too spicy but spicy enought to set it apart from sandwiches that leave me wanting more. It has onions and green peppers, mozarella cheese, all baked lightly. Sort of like a Philly Cheese steak except with sausage instead of the often bland beef. The pickle is a nice complement to the cheese but the chips were disappointing–a pile of small shards remniscent of what is left in the bag when you should have thrown it out. Embarrassing and cheapo! Still, the only disappointment of the meal and no big deal.
I had the tea as well and thought it was a bit weak, but that seems to be common nowadays.
Ray: The food here was served on nice plates, with great heavy flatware that one can actually use without having it bend in half with you. Kudos.
Tom: Yeah, but the glassware was “Pepsi Cola” logo…
Ray: There you go again…I suppose you want Coca Cola…
Tom: No! I want no logos on the glasses. Does glassware cost so much that they have to use these freebies? It seems kinda cheap, especially for a place as nice as this.
But, they do have great napkins–almost clothlike. And they dodged my usual complaint about stained ceiling tiles by painting them a dark blue.
Ray: Mangia Buona has nice, comfortable tables, chairs, and booths, with Italian-themed prints along the walls. There were fresh flowers on the tables, and curios above the divider between the main restaurant and the bar in the back. Light music was playing in the background.
Tom: And it looks like their deck, under construction out back, will be a nice addition.
Ray: The service was cheerful and fast, right in line with the time it would take to bake a pizza from scratch.
Mangia Buona is a nice, relaxing place to enjoy a meal with friends, family, or business acquaintances. The food is good and ample, and the service is fast and friendly
I wouldn’t hesistate to take family or friends to Mangia Buona for a nice, filling Italian meal. I need to go back anyway to sample the supper menu!
Tom: Yep–we will be back. I think that this place will do well.
